[Mk2] [Turbo] Rev 2 Only hitting 4k under boost and chucking out smoke

Ok Guys I took the tubby out for a hard spin just now for the very first time this is what happened...

In first gear boosted like a train til it reached 4k then sounded like it was hitting the limiter and wouldn't any more, then I switched to second it felt like a huge amount of wheel spin then it was off again, didnt have enough road see how far i could take 2nd.

Took her home and out the exhaust it was bellowing thickish smoke... it had a strong smell to it, Im not too sure if it was oil or fuel.

What do you guys think this could be?

How old are the leads and plugs?

I had a similar thing many years ago on an ST185 Celica GT4 (same engine) and it turned out that one of the leads was breaking down and arcing out onto the insulation of the plug. When the boost came on it was simply blowing the spark out on that particular plug and giving an awful misfire.
