You can set them up to be both a rear lighted badge and a brake light, I made one that sits in the middle vent of my PP copy engine lid that glows green ( like the elglow badge ) and it changes to red when you hit the brakes.

I have switchback LEDs in my reverse lights so they double as fog lights: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TGPkSHGymlQ

Now that's sweet- I really like that - if my car wan't in a hundred bits in the garage and under a pile of rubbish I would post a video of mine on you tube.
( the battery is disconnected and lives under the kitchen table at the moment )

Very impressed with the neatness of that. Just remember in case you get hassle, if I recall you're not allowed a white light on display at the rear -may be prudent for all it's worth to build in a switch somewhere so you can turn it off e.g. MOT time or on the very unlikely time plod stop you.
Re: [Mk2] [Generic] making a rear lit panel
Damn i didnt know it was illegal
i think i will just go with red then
thanks for the headsup

No KB article, sorry. It's a set of switchback LEDs, a pair of dual-filament bulb holders and some soldering. Not tricky really. Getting hold of the LEDs will be the trickiest bit... I got mine when I was in the USA on business a couple of years ago
