Item/tool to knock driveshaft oil seal in??

Post by jimGTS »

Not had much luck knocking in a new driveshaft oil seal.
Bent my new one, so removed it.

What tools/items have folk used to sussessfully knock this in without damaging the seal?

New idea was I found a plastic drain pipe which is ni on same size, maybe 1-2mm smaller than the seal inside the seal lip.
Only worry is the thickness of the pipe, maybe 2mm. May 'cut' into the seal being that thin??
Would be better to find something thicker, or even solid I'd guess?

Ideas from those that have done this before with no problems?

An impact socket this size would probably set me back £40! Lol
I wouldn't even know where to find one this size.

Largest socket I have is 36mm, that is big, and that fits through the hole in the seal, ha.

Size I'd need OD is roughly 67-68mm. That would be a GIANT socket.

I completely killed the original one getting it out! Unrecognisable, ha!

I can't do the flip the old one trick with this seal (passenger side) as there is an inner lip there. I'd destroy the lip banging on that with the used seal.

These things are dam tight! Why is nothing simple.
