turbo kit recommendations

Post by afennell »

Can someone recommend me a nice turbo kit, I’m not looking for big bhp. Something fast spooling, preferably with an external wastgate. maybe a Gt28.

Thank you.

Why externally 'gated? Just curious. I have a GT28RS and it's internally wastegated. I'm currently at a comfortable 312bhp/308lb-ft on 1 bar boost so if you're aiming for 300+ horses then I recommend it.

GTX28 or GTX30, nice quick spool with room for more power as and when you decide you want it :thumleft:

There is a company that makes a bolt on kit for the 28 range of turbos, it has an adaptor for both the stock manifold and stock downpipe. I cant find it now but I was looking at it just the other day.

I have bought an adaptor from ebay that converts from Toyota to GT28 size and am putting together the parts to do it myself. I am going to have to make or modify the downpipe as there is no space for an adaprot with the manifold adaptor I have. If you want to use a standard off the shelf DP you need to shift the turbo over a few mm to make room for a DP adaptor.

I am going for the GT28 as most of the ones I have seen have internal waste gates and for me thats a good thing as it saves on more fabrication.

The company that shalt not be named stocks a bolt on adaptor to go from the stock manifold to a GT28/GT30 housing, he does a downpipe for it as well. I'm sure he'd do the whole kit with a GTX turbo for you as well.

External waste gate all the way

Yeah, mine was done by Voldemort as it happens

I was a little tardy to the party and don't know any details of what happened (apart from him trying to kill Harry Potter) and I suppose that story will never be told again. His handywork installing a GT28 and associated plumbing is pretty sound though.

Thanks for the reply,

Im looking for a full kit for the moment, I will have a look On the voldemorts web site. :thumleft:

I had a screamer pipe on my supra with a T 61 and loved the sound, that's the only reason, I think it's meant to help exhaust gas flow as well, but its mainly for the sound.

External gates are generally less prone to creep... sounds like a very good reason to me :thumleft:

:thumleft: Might be something to take into consideration if I try pushing for 350 next year but I'll save that for another thread.

Well I run (or ran - the cars being stripped NOW) a GT2860RS with an external wastegate.

Superbly fast spool, fantastic noise off the screamer and good for around the 340 mark. no creep when used with a Profec B Spec ii, holds 12 psi at Lo boost and 17.8 psi at Hi boost perfectly.

You can hear the screamer nicely on this video. :) A highly recommended turbo for lightly modded tubbies

I have a full kit for sale still, GT3071R with top mount adaptor, you just bolt the whole thing on, even includes oil feed.

Screamer ftw, though don't expect to be aloud onto a track with one!

Even better, run no bov!
