New to the forum after owning this just over a month now. So, hi.
After 2 years of being off the road I decided to get my ar$e into gear and buy another car.
Started by looking at MX5's, but discovered I don't fit. Then my sensible head took over and I briefly looked at Mondeo ST TDCI's. Then I ended up getting an MR2, because I'm not sensible and I wanted some RWD Japanese fun.
After a few months of looking, I found one in London and set off to get it, after a 12 hour journey I was back home with it.
It's a 1996 Azure Blue MR2 GT, 143,000 (when bought).
Only got a few photos since I've had it, Instagram obviously:
So it came with a few extras:
5Zigen Exhaust
A'PEXi Induction Kit
17" Mitsubishi Evo wheels
A few little bits needed doing, so so far I've removed the sunstrip, stopped one of the front wheels rubbing, removed a switch that disabled the headlight motors, replaced the drivers mirror as it was smashed, fixed the horn wiring, replaced a worn gear knob, moved the air filter heatshield as it was blocking air from the air intake.
Went through the MOT 2 weeks ago with 2 advisories - tighten the handbrake & replace the drop links. So that's all been done. Got receipts and servicing back to '99 too which is nice.
Going to be quiet until January, at which point this will get a full service, clutch and timing belt change and maybe some HSD coilovers.

Cheers guy, I'll get some up soon then. Most will be poor Instagram ones though. Was quite surprised with the condition it's in really, especially for the price I paid. made a nice step up from a 1.2 Fiesta.

Noticed an issue over the past few days.
After 5 minutes of driving, the temp gauge goes right up, then really low and the heater temperature goes up then the gauge returns to normal. Any ideas?

Have you had a coolant change recently? Checked fluid levels?

Haven't had it changed. Checked last week and it was low, so topped it up and it still has enough in today.

You may have enough fluid - but you might have a blockage - any rust floating round in the system may have accumulated somewhere.

12 hours to London?
I thought you were in John O Groats
Congrats on the '2. Check for any air leaks (although then it would properly overheat), or consider a faulty gauge could be the culprit too. Easy enough to test swap it for another one. On the other hand a coolant change never goes amiss!

Was a combination of trains, the tube, and sorting insurance out when there etc.
I'll check it out and give it a change over the weekend. Cheers.

Re: Ewan's Rev 4 N/A
Decided to get round to replacing drop links today.
Tried using a spanner and allen key, no joy. Brought the hacksaw out, no joy. So I got the angle grinder and and mutilated it.
First side went fine, went to do the other, removed it then found out 1 of the nuts I was supplied was too small. And nowhere had them. Great stuff. So I'm going to a nut shop tomorrow to get one.
Then had a look for leaking water, appears to be coming from the radiator. Will have to get it looked at and then swear.
Fitted a square plate to the front too.
May take you up on this if you don't mind.

I once spent c. 2 hours under the car, hacksawing above my head. Didn't own an angle grinder.
Them steels is tough.
