Oil filters should be hand tight, you shouldn't need anything, unless it's the first time you've changed it and the previous owner did it too tight!
If it's any help, the oil filter on a MK1 is just about the same as every other Toyota.
Well, maybe best to go to halfords, find an oil filter for a Yaris and see if the wrench they sell fits. It's a pretty standard looking oil filter sizewise.
My old man has always used one of these: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Silverline-Tool ... ain+wrench
Never failed yet! And useful for undoing all sorts of other tight things (he uses them to remove the lids from home-brew beer barrels!)

TBF the filters say hand tight plus 3/4 turn.
Worst case stick a screwdriver through it but I've never had a filter I couldn't get off with the appropriate toolage.

Works a treat
Can change filter from above or below
Years of experience I suppose..? This is the tightest most awkward fecker of a filter I've seen.
To quote on of the lads on mr2.ie:-
At first I was convinced Toyota must have used the MR2 production line as a punishment for their employees. "You rate again!" "I srept in, bus earry, not my faurt" "You go MR2 line!" "NO NO I be good"
