[Mk2] [NA] coolant bubbling sounds

Post by nytrus90 »

Hey guys,

So I have a rev 2 1992 G-limited and just recently I've noticed that there seems to be some sort of bubbling sound which sounds to me like its coming from the front rad.

You can hear the most when she is idling.

What could this be and should I be worried about it?

Thank you in advance.

How long have you owned it? Is this a new sound or has it been there all along? I sometimes here a sound similar to what you describe soon after I turn my car off. I've always thought it was unused fuel returning to the tank.

is it leaking at all? have you recently replaced the coolant?

My car makes a bubbling noise when it is cooling down after a harsh drive. this is the coolant being pulled back through the expansion tank. It normally comes from the rear of the car. This is quite normal and nothing to worry about

if you're getting bubbling noises from the radiator in the front there could be trapped air. I would say try to get some air out by opening the little tap on the back of the rad. Your car should have a little clear pipe that you can attach you stick the pipe on and then open the tap you'll see coolant run up the pipe with some small bubbles in it
