[Mk2] [Turbo] 3sgte rev 2 block & rev 3 head

Post by mr2toby »

I have a rev 3 3sgte with a cracked piston ring. What parts would be required to remove the rev 3 block and install a rev2 block. Are things like exhaust/intake manifold, fuel rail interchangeable ?

Thanks

Assuming that you are keeping the rev 3 head and just replacing the block with rev 2:

anything that bolts to the head (manifolds, fuel rail, water outlet that feeds turbo, engine hangers etc) will be rev 3.

anything that bolts onto the block will need to be rev 2 (water outlet from water pump, water pump, oil pump, sump).

You'll need a rev 2 cambelt but rev 3 cambelt tensioner (as this bolts to the head)

Stick with rev 3 head gasket

I think the water hoses that go around the block under the exhaust manifold will need to be from a rev 2.

Can't think of anything else off top of head.

..the only thing I can promise for sure is slow progress.

just have this niggling thought that if I rip out the wiring, then the car will never get out of the garage again.

Still in the garage...
