smoking

Got an issue with rev 3 turbo engine. Its pudfing black smoke under boost. No fault codes and no loss of oil or water any ideas?

My Rev2 did this when I picked it up, massive over fueling as my BOV was letting air out and there was some sort of piggy back ECU installed.

Obviously a rev 3 should not over fuel due to an air leak but there may be other reasons it could be doing it.

when i had a cat fitted i had no smoke, then i removed it and it when you boost hard or stand still and rev it right up it puffs a big black puff.

I wonder if there is an ecu overfueling issue

Black smoke would generally point to overfueling. If it's recently been decatted perhaps it's a buildup of soot over the years now being cleared out bit by bit when on hard boost.

ECU won't overfuel by itself.

agreed i replaced the lambda sensor and no difference, does the coolant temp sensor adjust fueling on a rev3 like a rev1-2

All coolant sensors affect fuelling since the engine needs to know when to fuel enrich for cold starting.

Definitely worth checking.
