Do all Defi Gauges have a backlight? Mine don't seem to work...

Pretty much sure they do yes. Illuminated normally, and when the headlights are on they have a backlit display.

Hm... mine are off even when the headlights are on... where can I go to get them checked?

When the headlights are on, i think they just dim. This pic is of them without lights on.

I can take some photos but I'm pretty sure mine are completely dark - I can't read anything from them at night.

Step one... tell us which model of Defi gauges do you have!

Some are smoked and therefore are illuminated brighter during daylight and less when sidelights are turned on.

Some are not smoked and therefore are not illuminated during the day and are illuminated with the sidelights on.

Also, the Defi Controller (if you have one) has two separate link outputs for those two models of gauge which might muck things up a little (but not dramatically so). Finally, if the illumination input is not connected to the controller then you may never get the guages illuminated.

Edit: Just seen you're local to me. I'm more than happy to lend a hand if you're not too confident mucking about with car electrics.

Lol, right!

The gauges were already there when I bought the car. How can I check which model are they? Also, I have the controller which has some wires sticking out of it but I don't feel confident playing around with that! :-k

I get some photos soon!

Well, if you can make out the gauges clearly in daylight then they're not smoked and therefore wouldn't be illuminated during the day.

Take a look here and see if you recognise any... I'm going to guess you have the original Defi Link Meter: http://www.defi-shop.com/products/list/#end

Yes, sorry, they're not illuminated. And yes, you're right, they're most likely to be Link Meter in white + defi-link control unit

OK - you can do something very simple immediately and check that your gauges are plugged into Meter Output 1 and not Meter Output 2. (See page 80)

If that doesn't solve the problem then you'll need to check the wiring of the white wire on the power loom. (See page 89)

If you want help with the latter part or need a hand connecting it to the car's wiring correctly then give me a shout :thumleft:
