[Mk2] [Turbo] Rev2 turbo boost

Post by markstevieandmads »

Hi guys

My turbo is currently running 0.8bar using an aftermarket boost controller.

I believe everything else is stock (K&n filter only and stainless exhaust).

Whst the most I can run reliably please?

You could raise it to a bar but then it's a lottery with the rev2 head gasket

you would definitely need a run with a wide band air fuel gauge and a set of det cans to check for detonation.

Using a fuel cut defender?

I wouldn't turn it up unless you had
Uprated intercooler
Uprated air filter
Exhaust
And a fuel cut defender
Then you can run 1 bar (15psi) if you go above that the head gasket won't last long. :thumleft:

Also increasing the boost you will need to change to a different grade of spark plugs.

Sorry, its already running a fcd.

It looks like its been cared for but unfortunately got no paperwork.

Anyway of telling if its got a metal head gasket without taking it apart?

max boost on a rev2 is 14PSI, although others may say different, the head gasket will be fine at that, i would however leave the boost until you upgrade the intercooler, my old rev2 ran 14psi for the 5 years i had it, and the current owner still runs it at that, so 7 years the car has ran 14psi on the stock head gasket.

Hi

I bought a full intercooler kit from EMS Powered. I asked them about the maximum boost pressure my lighter and weaker ceramic turbo (ct26) could handle in a safe enviroment... With the basic mods, they told me 15 psi

it's not about your turbo mate, it's about the ECU delivering fuel to the engine, and it only has maps for up to 14 psi. above that, the ECU doesn't know what's going on.
