My rev1 turbo tbar

Post by gazrev1tubby »

Well folks, time has come for me to move on, and explore other avenues, so it’s with regret that my mr2 is up for sale.

I’ve owned her since May 2003, and bought it as a bone stock rev 1 turbo.

In my ownership, the its gone through various transformations, as most of you are aware, and I cannot stress enough at how meticulous I’ve been in caring for it.

It’s currently taxed until the end of October, but I may be forced to sorn it as the insurance is getting swapped to my new car. It’s mot’d until next May.

I’ve done an extensive list of modifications to it, some custom, but all my own work – at home.

Bear in mind, this car is not my daily hack, and only a weekend toy. I’d estimate that the engine probably hasn’t even covered 10’000 miles

The odometer currently reads 164'793 miles, but they're not the original clocks. It's covered around 110k miles, but I can assure you that the only part of the car that old, is the original shell !

Engine: (Revision 2)

Rebuilt in January 2011 with the following parts:

Wiseco 86mm 9:0:1 forged pistons
Eagle con rods
Clevite big end and main bearings, and thrust washers
Arp head and rod bolts
Rev3 metal head gasket
New oem oil pump
New blueprint water pump
New cam belt and tensioners
Head overhauled with valves reseated

I fitted a fully reconditioned ct20b turbo with a forge motorsport 0.9 bar actuator less than a year ago, that was overhauled by turbo rebuild in Birmingham.

It’s running a rev3 inlet manifold/throttle body, modified to suit the earlier head
Rev3 management and Fuelling conversion
Running 1.1 bar on bkr7e plugs
Gizzmo ms-ibc
Decat with support bracket
Phoenix power departure exhaust
Apexi induction kit
Ngk leads
Xs power style intercooler with block off plate
Walboro 255 lph fuel pump
Bored out xxxx rev2 fuel rail
Brand new Alloy radiator

The engine bay has been detailed, and partially wire tucked, done properly with the loom extended to the boot.

Drivetrain:

Stock E153 non lsd box that doesn’t crunch !
New drivershaft seals and and speedo drive
Techniclutch organic clutch
Brass shifter bushes

Chassis:

Both sills replaced at the beginning of this year, along with arches overhauled and wax oiled
Black bilstein suspension with ROC -30mm front springs, and Eibach -25mm rear springs
My own custom brake upgrade with Nissan 200sx s14a 4 pot front calipers with ferodo ds2500 pads and supra mk4 uk spec tt discs, with stock rev2+ rear calipers and mazda rx8 front discs on the back.
Braided brake lines
Trd anti roll bars with s-bits poly bushes
New drop links, track rod ends, and lower ball joints
Toms front strut brace

Body (Rev 1 t-bar):

Repainted in dark charcoal in 2010 (peugeot gris kazan)
FE front bumper
Border rear spats
Border side skirts
Aeroware front lip (Although I can supply a rev6 front bumper with the car)
Rogue rev6 headlights
Autopista rear spoiler
F40 style rear engine cover
Brand new autoart crystal front lenses
Custom rear centre panel with rare el glo badge
Single side vent mod, with carbon vent scoops
Bonnet gas rams
Carbon fibre scuttle panel
Carbon radiator cover panel

Interior:

Freshly retrimmed stock seats in black leather
UK leather door cards
Custom centre dash trim, with blue led gauges blended in (oil press, oil temp, volt)
Mk3 steering wheel
Rev3 shifter with genuine TRD leather gear knob
Heater control leds in blue/white
Uk rear foglight switch, with tell tale in stock uk location
Uk 160mph clocks, with Clifford l.e.d in stock location
L.e.d map lights

I.C.E:

Sony single din head unit
Vibe s.e.k 6.25 components up front, with tweeters
Vibe 4” co ax in rear stock location
Passenger side cutom sub box with Alpine 10” sub
Amps on custom board in frunk

Wheels:

SSR 5 spokes, repainted in black – but could do with a refurb
7 x 17 f with 205/40/17
8 x17 r with 20mm spacers 225/45/17

Other extras:

Data systems ‘factory look’ turbo timer
Rear lexan window blinds
Clifford Avantguarde 5.5 cat 1 alarm/immobiliser, with dual zone proximity sensor, anti lift sensor, complete with two fobs
Mirrors fold upon arm/disarm

I think I’ve pretty much covered everything, there’s bound to be a couple of things I’ve missed, but you see that it’s quite a car, with an extensive spec !

I have a folder full of receipts, and all the mot certificates since my ownership.

Bad points:

There are a couple of very minor ‘car park dings’ on the bodywork – as with almost every car on the road !
The drop glass trims have faded – as they all do, but I intend to touch them up with a bit of satin black

I genuinely can’t think of anything else off hand, that isn’t perfect. The ride quality is lovely, it handles really well, and runs perfect.

This is a very reluctant sale, and after writing this ad, I’m wondering if I’m making a mistake ! I will not sell it to any ‘tom, dick or harry’, I would like it to go to a club member, who will look after her and cherish her as I have.

Price is negotiable, but I won’t budge much, so no dreamers or anyone who thinks they’re going to get a bargain. Viewings welcome, but a test drive will only be granted upon proof of valid insurance for THIS vehicle. Also please note that the car may soon be sorned – due to dvla laws when a vehicle is no longer insured

The current number plate is my personal reg, this will be getting removed, and I’d assume the dvla will issue a replacemet ‘h’ prefix registration for the car. Please note, that it could be a couple of weeks until this is done

Never thought you would sell this Gary, good luck with what's next.

Would like to add that this is one pampered and extremely well looked after car. The new owner will be very lucky to own such a perfect example of MR2.

Cars like Gary's and mine are far to good to be broken, it's not all about the money when you have put so much of your life into a car!!

Hope you find a good home for it bud, it's a fine example of a modified "2"

No bud, rev3 management and fuelling. Used to have a big turbo, with 870cc delphi injectors, with a power fc, but I went back to stock rev3 management, and a new ct20b, as the power delivery is far better in my opinion.

It's superb to drive!.

Ethan, it's not just about the money mate, id rather keep it whole. I'm not desperate for the money either, id gladly keep it, but sadly I know that it won't get used, and to see it deteriorate would be worse

I haven't dynoed it bud, running this setup, but I can only assume a similar figure to a rev3 running 1.1 bar. All I can say, is that real world performance, there is nothing in it between mine, steves (steve_c) and marks (markandlyn).

To be honest, I don't drive it hard. I pretty much stay around the mid range which is enough for me.

Yeah shame they're worth more in parts than whole, think about breaking mine all the time but then think how much work i put into it.
Saying that may change my mind the next time it breaks
