Boost leak test peeps, highly recommended!!

After a drive today, thought I'd give this a go via my new air compressor I got for xmas. I should have done it before the drive ](*,)

Lynx stuffed on the hose from the turbo, tin can wedged before the TB.

My current system was leaking and not holding boost!
The turbo and my old one must have been working more than it needed to to make pressure.

Had pinhole leaks from all coupler hoses bar the turbo one! And leaking past my w/i port too! Crazy. And everything as far as I was concerned was tight!!
Nothing was remotely loose.

So I done up the clamps past where I thought possible. This then held fine. More ptfe tape for the w/i injector and all sorted!

Now holds 20psi no problem.
Amazed I hadn't considered doing this before.

Want to give the intake mani a go next time.

Not really payed attention yet, just sorting the setup and boost control.
I wouldn't describe it as remotely laggy at all!

I'm just interested to see what it's like as I keep eyeing up the kinugawa TD06SL2-18g as a potential replacement for my billet TD05-16g

I'd be surprised if there wasn't a walbro in there when the conversion was done. Though can't be 100%, maybe in the receipts somewhere.

Some more boost leak testing yesterday

Filter by the map sensor tiny leak, decided to just ditch the filter now
https://youtu.be/mzLpzeJVPcI

HKS fuel pressure leak by the bolt thread. This lost pressure very quickly
Hopefully some sealant will sort this or threadlock
https://youtu.be/lmLNL0zy7fM

Tial wastegate leak around the housing, I read it leaks as standard down the valve stem which isn't an issue, but shouldn't be leaking around the housing join!
https://youtu.be/mLmJ2gzHIYs

Hopefully some high temp sealant on the join may sort it.

Wow that's really finding some good leaks!

I know Pete had the housing top off to check all was well when we were looking for the noise.... so I'm sure a little sealer and tighten would sort that :thumleft:

Was already very tight. I tried some sealant around the edge, not enough to fix it.

So decided to remove it, dismantle, clean up, flatten off the housings and sealant between the lower housing and diaphragm. Also put some sealant under the hex bolts as was leaking there too.

Now not a single sign of a bubble at 20-25psi on the top and bottom ports.
:thumleft:

Sealant fixed my fuel pressure reg too, again tested up to 25psi

Tial leaks on the bench

Tial apart
Image

Can see flat surfaces are a little dirty

Cleaned up

Didn't get a picture of the sealant unfortunately

Now holding a good amount of pressure
https://youtu.be/w4gtcSUDLqs

And just for hell of it, the valve opening/shutting
https://youtu.be/mUQYhcWMkqc

That's some boost leak mission complete

Similar happened to me on my last mr2, only different circumstances, was overtaking a hgv and all of a sudden the boost gauge shot up, went above 2.2 bar before my foot was off the accelerator, failed actuator ](*,)

We can clean up this thread in the future Jim if the chit chat gets in the way :thumleft:

One of my favourite threads, partly to your mr2 being so clean but mostly due to the detail in the posts, keep up the good work Jim :thumleft:
