[Mk2] [NA] Anti squeal slotted shims not fitting?

Post by tezmc »

I'm fitting new pads to my 2 and ordered new anti squeal shims from Toyota as the old ones had rotted away.

From the looks of it, the inner slotted shims won't fit with my Pagid pads though. I checked them against the old Greenstuff pads and it was the same?

Do the inner shims only fit with genuine Toyota pads or am I missing something?

I never bother with anti-squeal shims, you get a better pedal feel without them.

Ah fair enough, cheers Nic :)

I did notice the old pads didn't have them on, I just wanted to make sure before I refitted everything.

You've got the inner shims facing the wrong way.

if you're not using them, use plenty of copper grease.

Grease on brake pads?

Not something I would ever do

I think bob knows that, and is still against it for some reason

I don't use shims or grease on the back of the pads either, no risk then of it getting on the friction surface.

There is no risk.
Lets not try and scare people here, mechs have been using copper lube for years and years with no issues. a Thin layer will sit there longer than a tree hugger without moving.
