Tyres not fitting in wheel arches

Post by james8iles »

Alloys 17 x 8 ET 35
Tyres 215/45/17

1. The tyres are so close to the strut I think I need spacers
2. The tyres are catching on the arches (even so I cannot turn on full lock)

Has anyone else encountered this issue? Presumably 45 profile on the front is too large?

Is an 8J rim too wide? I thought lots of people ran these.

You will be ok with that on the rear but I had the same spec on my 2 and ran slightly stretched 205s on the front. No problems with fitment at all.

I have had this on the front too.

You need either 215/40/17 or 205/45/17

I agree, you'll need to calculate the sidewall aspect ratiois to ensure you get it right.

The sidewall is a percentage of the width. e.g. 215/100*40=86 that means the sidewall will be 86mm.

On a 45 with the same width youll be 11mm bigger (which is 22mm rolling diameter larger) and therefore you will hit the suspension perch.
