Meguires Vs Autoglym

Post by mwmackenzie »

Well I have been a busy bee cleaning the car this weekend and i did so with Meguires Gold Class Carnuba plus. looks fantastic, I then porceeded to pop a couple of layers of Autoglym Extra Gloss protection on just the passenger side and I think it is now not as shiney as the drivers side which just has megs... The feel of the paint on the Meguires only side is slippery and silky but the autoglym side is not :( I now feel I want to go over the Autoglym side with the meguires again, disapointed in the result with the Extra Gloss Autoglym but very happy with the Megs Gold Class...

What polish do you guys get the best results with? My car is a red rev5

Cheers
Mark

I just started a thread on detailing too. Must be the weather :)

http://www.imoc.co.uk/forums/viewtopic. ... 51#1503251

I'm a big fan of the Meguires stuff. Ultimate Compound followed up with NXT wax has always worked for me in the past but I think I need a proper single action polisher to get the swirls out of this one.

Autoglym has always seemed a bit petrol station impulse buy to me.

I think the Megs Gold is easier to use and gives a better finish from what I've read on detailing forums and through use ;) give it a bash... :thumleft:

I may just do that. But with the price of Megs stuff I think I'll finish off the NXT first!

Any chance of some pics of your half and half?

Ive not found a single wax on the market, that's gives the same results as the mothers California gold range.

Trust me, being an avid painter/detailer, ive tried loads, and my comparisons are based on 'affordable' everyday products.

Plus, the mothers stuff smells gorgeous :thumleft:

Signature quote?

Is that pure carnauba stuff or synthetic? The pure stuff is a b1tch to get off isn't it?

I'll try and post pics later, to be honest both sides look great and my photography skills aren't good enough to throw up any difference, my main gripe was the way the paint feels to touch.. the megs side is super slippery and the other isn't :( couple of pics on Facebook " Edinburgh MR2 " Group

Some good suggestions coming up here. Does that Natty's Blue stuff have a tint or is it just the name?

I've heard tinted waxes are just a gimmick and give no real difference over regular stuff.

I use the Megs Deep Chrystal stuff and i like the results it give. Gives an awesome deep finish on red paint.

My bro used the AG SRP on his Golf last weekend and the results were brilliant. But that too gave the paint a rough feel. Not sure if its maybe the fillers in the polish.

Not sure why all the hate for Autoglym, I get really good results for it. Pro tip for using the tyre shine is only to apply it to the tyres, by the way ;)

The AG SRP has proven to be the best on the market for removing* swirls and scratches etc by hand.
