Wheel nuts

Post by tomsky »

Currently having my wheels (teardrops) refurbished the original nuts are a bit tatty and rusty and think will probably let the wheels down a bit. Are new wheel nuts available anywhere are there also any other options for standard alloys as always felt the original nuts stick out a bit far

Cheers
Tom

You could get some roadster nuts, they're shorter Tom

Are you sure yours are rusty or just mucky

Try soaking some in vinegar overnight

I've tried the vinegar idea and it's a waste of time.

Still leaves nasty rusty patches and grime and stinks.

Did you try white vinegar Alex ?

Or cocacola ?

Doubtful if they'll shift rust though

Yeah white vinegar is what I used.

You can pick up a set of roadster wheel nuts for about £25 with lock nuts too.

I might be changing mine but not for a while. Am undecided on what colour to go for.

I'm using Mk1 nuts with roadster wheels at the mo

They do the job but are too long

Have seen a roadster set on the Bay

just to confirm do the roadster nuts fit the original teardrop alloys and hub then and with the only difference being that they are shorter?

Cheers

Mk1 teardrop nuts fit roadster wheels

So the answer to your question must be yes Tom

Here in Germany these nuts are available very cheap as aftermarket parts so it makes no sense to reburbish used ones:

Have had a Mk1b wheelnut soaking in white vinegar for 4 days

There was no rust on it but quite a lot of hardened black stuff

Bits of black have been falling into the vinegar

When I removed the nut from the vinegar & wiped it today all the remaining black came off & the nut is sparkling :thumleft:

Have put some more nuts in the vinegar now
