Tein Rebuilds

Post by Marlowe »

So I've decided to suck it up with the Tein super streets (can't really justify cost of replacing the whole set up with a softer set up), but suspect there might be a slow leak on front passenger side.

I know the official stance is ship the shock to Japan for Tein HQ to fix, but this seems a bit expensive. Are there any companies in the UK that will refurb a Tein (I've read they can be harder to rebuild due to specialist tools) and does anyone know of a rough costing if so?

Cheers. :)

I Had my ha's refurbed a few years back by tein ( fronts only) and it cost almost as much as a new set of super streets! they did a good job BUT it took close to six weeks to get them back.

GAZ do them, they are based in Essex. GAZ used to be called LEDA.

No dice with Gaz - won't even consider it without a drive down to Essex to examine them.

Tried Camskill as they're a Tein dealer - advised me to go straight to Tein as they stated it'd be cheaper.

Received a very friendly e-mail from Tein UK asking for more information. Fingers crossed - but I suspect it won't be a pretty number.

I'll update this with any quotes as I suspect I won't be the first or the last person needing to get a Tein coilover rebuilt...

Tein UK will do them - about £170 per damper IIRC.

I recently had some coilovers rebuilt by a specialist in Wellingborough, Northamptonshire (IG Racing) and am very pleased with the results :thumleft:

I'm going to be seeing him in the next couple of weeks if you want me to mention it?

Cheers for the offer - I'd would appreciate it.

Unfortunately I need the car driveable for the end of July (annual Nordschleife pilgrimage) so I'm up against it timewise now. May end up having to bite the bullet with Tein, if they say they're willing to rebuild.

Cheers!

Has anyone any idea roughly of the time it takes for a response? I had an initial reply very quickly asking for more detail, but have heard nothing since Saturday. Impatient I know but I'm getting worried as I have the annual Ring drive on the 28th July and it'll be frankly s**t if I take the GTI instead of the MR2 (First world problem, I know).

Cheers

Just email them again, most companies are useless when it comes to correspondence!

Tein rebuilds seem steep.

The initial rebuild price was reasonable, but the big hit was on the shipping of parts to and from Japan.

Suffice to say I am looking into alternatives...If anyone has any ideas I'd be grateful :s

I sold a set of Tein coilovers for a Prelude and 1 was in need of a rebuild. Guy who bought them says that Tein supplied him the seals but im not sure if thats true as ive read a few topics about Tein not supplying parts.

Another suggestion would be to try a place who rebuilds motorcross bikes and parts etc. If its just a seal rebuild you need, im pretty sure they would probably be able to do it.

Dosn't help much but i stumbled across a set of fully adjustable Teins for a Mk2 MR2 on a facebook page for car parts that i frequent and the guy only wanted £200. They looked pretty fresh and he claimed they were tip top. They must have got snapped up quick as i can't seem to find the post.

Cheers. I've given up and am going down the route of stock rebuildables with apex lowering springs as an affordable compromise. Will get the Teins off and sell as a job lot. :)
