Exhaust back box

Post by ian08 »

I've had a price today for a stainless backbox with a 3 yr warranty from a Toyota main dealer..... £150 with the gasket for my AW11 n/a....... is that a reasonable price?

Seems very reasonable to me Ian

Compared with the cost of a full Mongoose system

Did they also quote for the front box & pipe :?:

Didn't know Mr T sold S/S exhaust parts :-k

I'm pretty sure they don't. They'll most likely be doing one of 2 things:

1) The dealer will be sourcing a stainless box from somewhere other than Toyota and selling it on with some markup (Given the typical markup on parts from the dealer it seems unlikely at this price)

2) The dealer has quoted for a standard mild steel replacement either in error or in the hope you don't notice.

Apparently Peter it's got to come from Belgium and is heavily discounted..... the parts guy wasn't even sure to start with if they still did them. I was surprised when he said it was stainless and double checked it with him. It doesn't include the tail pipe trims though and I didn't ask him to quote for the front section as I only need a back box.
My usual tyre and exhaust place wanted £200 for a mild steel back box.... hence the call to Toyota....
if it is stainless then it's a bargain I reckon.... if it's mild steel, it's still cheaper than the exhaust centre....
I think he maybe needs to check it again

Could some old stock of a dealer fit option part or TRD accessory. Interested to see what you get now (and how many more might be in a Belgian warehouse ;) )

My flexi pipe is blowing so took it to custom pipes in Doncaster and was quoted £250 for flexi a bit of stainless and a backbox. What a ripoff.

Need somewhere else to try as its doing my head in blowing

You could get a brand spanking new Mongoose system for £100 more than that quote Qazwer

Fit & forget permanently :)

PK Exhausts in Macclesfield have an excellent reputation

IIRC they quoted me around £200 to make a complete S/S system
