Are Turbo and N/A radiators the same?

Post by Alex O »

As per the title really.

I have a Rev3 Turbo and the rad is starting to fall apart.

Is the N/A rad smaller and if so, is this a negative (I would assume it is, otherwise, why make 2 models?)

Toyota want £245 + VAT which I will get if it's the best thing - I would prefer quality over cost.

Also, I want to ensure all correct bleed points etc

If there are suitable options aside from Toyota, who/where?
Thanks
Alex

Take the original radiator to a radiator specialist who will re-core for around £100. You will be guaranteed a quality repair and will be certain that re-fitting won't be an issue.

Note that you will probably need to get them to order in the core before you drop the radiator off if you need a same-day turnaround.

These local to you?

Interesting, hadn't considered that.

Yes, they are very close by. Thank you, I shall enquire with them.

Try Trevor at TCB http://www.tcbparts.co.uk/rads%20&%20cooling.htm I got mine from him. There are two sizes of rad but the bigger one fits straight in place of the smaller one if you remove the two plastic covers, as my rev1 had the smaller rad before I fitted the larger one in the link above.

Ive just had my original one removed by Peter. So it's yours for £20 if you don't want the hassle of a re-core :thumleft:

I've just had mine re-cored at a local specialist:

Motorcool in Thornaby.

The beauty of using the original radiator is that you retain the strength of the brass side tanks - the extra-long hose connectors - plus the correct bleed valves.

Turbo radiators (and some JDM NA models) use a slightly wider radiator. This can mean the NA fans don't fit quite as well
