Power Steering

Post by philmr2 »

My tubby is the first mr2 i have owned that is equipped with the power steering, After doing some jobs on the car today i was sitting in the car and turned on the ignition to the second click so lights are lit up on the dash clocks etc, Now whilst doing this i hear a whining noise from the frunk and locate the noise to the power steering motor, I know the power steering switches off when moving above a certain speed. But is it meant to whir when sitting idle and no movement from the steering wheel.

cheers phil

Should stop whirring after a while, it's quite normal (at least I hope so lol)

Hmm…I’d be very interested to know your findings.

I have an intermittent p/s on/off issue and just realised that as long as I hear that whining noise p/s works fine but after a little while that it stops my p/s goes off.

Yes same here, I shared your concern originally but after speaking to a few owners it is perfectly normal.
