Suspenders

Post by elbon50 »

A while ago I purchased a suspension system from Chris (Limey)

Full set of struts with KYB shock inserts & Whiteline progressive springs

Have stripped, checked, cleaned, painted and re-assembled them during the recent cold weather

Fitted the front ones to the car last week

Havn't done much testing yet, but the car feels different :)

*awaits Paul Woods to comment about how dangerous Jamex springs are*

That was a very good suspension system from my memory. Made the car handle nicely.

Have to admit, the post was not quite what I had hoped from "suspenders" :oldtongue:

Yes IIRC Chris said he liked how the car handled :)

That one'll have to go in Off Topic I suppose :-k

Referring to the picture above, it has been said that the Jamex front springs have too many coils & therefore too close together

The Whiteline ones have the same number of coils but differently spaced

Some of the Whiteline coils are closer together than the Jamex and are closed when the weight of the car is on them

However, two coils are much more widely spaced than any of the Jamex ones

The Whiteline suspension feels much less harsh

Bear in mind that I still have Jamex springs & old stock shocks on the back

The same comparison pictures with the weight of the car on them would be much more interesting

Whoa. Now go park on a speedbump and see how much it compresses from there.

The force is weak in these springs.

Either Mk1 suspension design is a bit suspect, or your struts are too short? :-k

There's nothing wrong with the MK1 suspension design, it's better than the MK2's

What's up with these springs being practically coil bound then? :-k it would take some evidence to convince me that's what suspension under compression should look like.

I have no idea what is going on with it. This is what standard Mk1 front strut/springs look like with all 4 wheels on the road

That's my front suspension, the picture was taken in the garage 10 mins ago

The ol' Whitelines were on my MK1 for getting on 3-4 years and did a good few track days, plenty of twisty A & B roads and a lot of commuting with no issues at all.

Must admit I never looked too closely at them with the weight on, just stuck em on and drove it.

I would have kept them if the V6 hadn't been too heavy for the initial spring rate.
