4A-GZE Supercharger Oil....SOLUTION!

Post by greglebon »

Just thought I'd share this as I know this crops up every so often.....

I used to own a Mk1 with an AE101 GZE engine conversion,
This engine uses the Roots SC-12 supercharger. As this is a late 1980's engine, things have moved on a bit since then....

The supercharger on that engine is effectively what is now called an "Ogura TX-12"

Coming back to present day, I've recently bought a Toyota Corolla TSport Compressor (a 2ZZGE fitted with...you guessed it: a TX-12!! :thumleft: )

Well...looking through my paperwork and manuals yesterday I stumbled on the following:

"Supercharger Oil Type:
Klubersynth GH6-80 of Kluber Lubrication (www.klueber.com)"

Which leads here: http://www.klueber.com/en/product-detail/id/1052/

So...the specs / guesswork end here! This oil is not a magical elixir....

This is what Toyota use.... :thumleft:

I dunno if this is common knowledge now?....if so, sorry...! :D

..but I could have done with this info 7 years ago.......

Jaguar SC oil also does the same job at a fraction of the price :thumleft:

:D Yeh, I know..!

..Its just that seeing it in an official Toyota document gave me a  moment....

I mean, it was shrouded in mystery a few years back, was it not...

Everyone making "calculated guesses" without ACTUALLY knowing what oil it was....?

To be honest mate i've known about the Jag oil for many years, been using it to service customers SC's and even on my own SC stuff.

If Toyota weren't such greedy robbing sods we wouldn't have to find the same product for less.

Also there is a guy selling special Mk3 headlight restorer polish for £9 (enough to restore two headlights), it's just G3 rubbing compound which is £9 for a whole 400g tube of the stuff! (enough to do 20-30 cars)

:D Yeh..you'd have thought that Toyota, after robbing us blind for years would have at least invested the spoils wisely, and developed / released some DECENT sports cars to replace MR2 / Celica / Supra...?

We DONT want a hybrid, either.....!

Klueber stuff is v v v expensive - will make Mr T look cheap.

We use their anti-scuffing paste at work - I think it's nearly £100 a tube.

I was googleing for a different kind of oil than the überexpensive klübersynt oil and found this thread. My ogura tx 12 fitted in my corolla compressor has almost gone dry but i refuse to buy 5 litre of this golden klüberüberoil cause i need what? 100ml?
So what jagoil are you guys talking about? Link to a dealer who has it?

Also, part #12345982 is the GM oil that they use in the US....

With P+P, duty, etc, prob work out about £25 for a couple of bottles from the US....? :?

On one of the forums a while back, Oilman (Opie Oils) recommended an engine oil (but I cannot remember EXACTLY which one now..!? )

...but someone could always ask him again......? :thumleft:

I ran my old one on Mobil1 SHC 75W-90 fully synth gear oil for several years without an issue - lots of track abuse with a Fensport big pulley on it during that time too.
