The exhaust is quite new so it didn't take much to bring the shine out. Quick wash with Meguiars car shampoo, Autoglym tar & glue remover then a dab of quick detailed on top.

That'll last all of a couple of days on the road until it's dirty again.

Couldn't resist another photo :lol:

I've just purchased a Mongoose de-cat pipe. Reason being is that the design looks quite similar to the 5zigen and it's stainless steel too. So it won't rust through like my current steel one. It should be here in the next couple of days :mrgreen:

Came looking like this;

So i've polished it up a bit whilst it's off the car;

And fitted it to the 5zigen;

Ignore the old bed sheet :lol:

Can't wait to get it on now! One thing that's holding me back is the fact i've got no useful gaskets. The ones i've purchased from Toyota are no good. I'll have to try and get some custom ones, not too sure where to get them from though!

everytime i see that exhaust i dribble abit!

use black silicon bud, i use it instead of gaskets on exhausts all the time,actually works better than a gasket as it doesnt crumble away!

This happened over the weekend :lol:

I'm still yet to finish of the hard to reach places and attack the passenger side / centre console as well as clean it all down with turps. I've collected most of it in a bag to see how much it actually all weighs. Every little helps :roll:

Theres a gasket and bolt set that you can buy for i think £12. I'm going to do that as i need both of them anyway!

I think generally paste is better than gaskets mate! Flexes and lasts well.

Exhaust looks good mate, it also 'looks' quite loud! :twisted:

Nice work on the sound deadening removal. It's a job I truly hate! :lol:

Why custom?

They'll be standard 3" gaskets, shirley?

This kit will do me fine. If it needs a little extra sealing i'll add some. I hate using the stuff, i always seem to get it every where. It's particularly difficult trying to get it out of your hair :lol:

I've measured it to be 2.5". I'm not man enough for a 3" system. No turbo remember? :lol:

I spent 3 hours on it removing not much, my knees and back where in so much pain after. Also had a few bruises on my hand from where i'd missed the chisel and hit my hand with a hammer

Just read through this for the first time - sounds really silly but it's really nice to see someone spending so much time and effort to put together a well-sorted NA MR2 without reverting to Massiv Booooost innit :lol:

Keep up the good work :thumleft:

Looking good- it's kin effort isn't it?! Much easier in the cold when the sound proofing's brittle though ;-)

Just the harder bits to get out now... :mrgreen:

When I did the same to my NA it turned out like this (5th post from the bottom), not sure how you'll get the sound proofing out with the cubby hole metal there still though:

Cheers :D

I'm not after chasing big power. I just want something that i can use to it's full potential both on & off the road.

It's so much effort. It takes so long! When i can be bothered to order a Dremel i'll be grinding down the spot welds for the bracket. But trying to get rid of the sound deadening behind there is a nightmare!

I've ordered a few bits up considering it's payday and christmas round the corner. Had to treat myself :lol:

I've got a set of plain Aerocatches in the post as well as a Dremel to fit them. Also have a set of JDM front indicators which have just landed. Nut/bolt & gasktet set for the de-cat pipe, as well as 10m of heat wrap for the HKS manifold with some metal cable ties and Genuine nuts for the manifold studs. The thing i'm excited about most is the Pheonix Power Roll Centre Adaptors, discontinued stock from RHDJapan :mrgreen:

I've been working on removing the sound deadening over the past few days. Started with the drives side and I've finally got round to removing most of it. There's a small patch behind where the storage compartments are which I'm struggling to get at.

Will be continuing with the rest tomorrow. I've got a drill bit on order to remove spot welds. So when that turns up I'll be removing the rear storage compartment skins as they won't be needed!
On another note, the bits ordered turned up.
