[Mk2] [NA] weird problem and have no clue :/ expert needed

Post by don young »

right guys thanks for reading i hope i can find an answer,

a while back the car cut out and wouldnt fire up, was right out the blue, tried everything , spark plugs wer pretty black so cleaned them and still nothing , with alot of farting about bein told ot was an earth and a lot of stuff , i put new plugs in and it fired eventually.

was runing fine for moths until last month engine started making a kinda tapping noise at 3k revs but went away above that, last week i checked oil again and there was nothing on dipstick :/checked oil and it was ok , park car in same places all the time so no oil leak , put in a litre and still not on dipstick, topped up untill it was half way.

left it till next day and took it a run , checked oil it was ok so went along the road and it felt like as if it was about to run out of petrol , kinda jumpy at start of every gear then would fire up and go normal, revs fine on idle

not sure whats goin on as it ran fine before i topped up with oil :(

any ideas atall ????

Could be a hundred ancillary things - Ignition system, fuel system, or some mechanical damage. Does it produce blue smoke when it was working? I'd want to know where the oil went first of all to determine if it is even worth trying to fix.

no smoke , it was runing fine untill i put oil in it , it does feel like to much or not enough fuel but surely wouldnt change through the night??

theres no oil leak so it must be some where but i have no clue. i know a second hand engine is pennys if worst came to worst but then that makes me think about turbo conversion lol

im going to put it in my garage and have a poke about next week as its ran out of tax so il keep it off till................ until its fixed in someway

Blocked fuel filter maybe? doesnt explain oil loss but its a cheap thing to try incase its fooked causing the car to cut out. Maybe a coolant temp sensor or damaged distributor?
