[All] [Generic] Link ECU - Windows 8

Post by Wingers »

I'm not sure if anyone on here can help but there are a lot of Link ECUs around so I'll give it a go.

Does anyone know if the Link ECU software works on windows 8?
I've got a G3 so am using the slightly older version of PCLink, not the latest one for G4 only...

Yep I posted on there on Tuesday but haven't had a reply yet. I thought I'd try on here too just in case anyone knew.

I tried calling the UK dealer but they couldn't help. Have now sent an email too so will hopefully get a response there.

Because Link UK (i.e Thor) are no help whatsoever when it comes to the G3 and the forum is slow, hence he tried on this forum where there are a lot of Link ECU users, to get an answer.

Windows 8, like Windows 7 before it has a compatibility mode so there is no reason to suggest it wont work. Both alos support virtualisation of older opperating systems.

Currently there is no solution for windows 8 available.

We do have it working in house and are currently in the final stages of testing.

I would expect a release in a few weeks.

This will be for the G4 range. However the USB drivers will be able to be used with the old G3 software you will likely have to do a double install of G4 software first and then the G3 software.

Looks like the bods at Link have got back to him :thumleft:

They have indeed.
For anyone who's interested, the official response was that there should be a G4 compatible solution in a few weeks, but there are no plans to do anything specifically for the G3. Having said that the G3 should work with the G4 drivers...

Prior to that I did get as far as wandering into John Lewis and installing PCLink on one of their windows 8 display models
That seemed to work fine, but I decided against walking in with an ECU, loom and car battery to bug test the whole thing...

I guess I'll find out soon as I've got my new laptop due for delivery today :)

If it doesn't work, you could always run a VM containing XP :thumleft:

OK. It's good to know that that might be a solution if I can't get Windws 8 to work. I have to admit I'm not great when it comes to computer systems however so will probably get someone else involved to do the hard bits.

Cheers for the idea though. :thumleft:

Why when Hyper-V is part of Windows 8 and is a type 1 Hypervisor not an application on top of windows.

And in unrelated developments a new front runner has emerged in the Jayridium man of the year contest:
