Lauren's 4AGE build by Tom (Icunonsove)

Post by Lauren »

Okay, I am getting my engine rebuilt. Tom is doing it for me. I don't have the time (nor really the inclination myself as I'm too busy) to get it done. Tom is an engineer who has spent the last year rebuilding overbored DB6 engines amongst many other things!

I reckon he'd do a far better job than I.

Here is how he has got on with the all the prep stuff so far.

Okay Tom's pics:

My AE86 virtually buried, but still there! It will live again!

The block and ancillaries in the kitchen. This is everything back from the machine shop and a whole load of Toyota parts hiding in that box:

The rather corroded side:

Tom had to use a heater on the parts washer to help it to work better:

Some of the clean parts building up:

The table of dirty components getting smaller, finally:

Curing the block paint:

Camshafts replaced by retainers to hold the tappets and buckets in place:

Image

Cam covers are going to need a bit of work:

Image

Cylinder head uncleaned. Spot the problem one!

Image

Initially cleaned but I expect we'll do more with this:

Image

An ever increasing pile of bits!

Image

Random nuts and bolts cleaned:

Image

Sorted and bagged:

Image

Pistons, conrods and main bearing caps:

Image

Main bearing caps dried immediately and protected from corrosion:

Everything you need to build a 4AGE!

Ready for re-assembly:

Nice build :thumleft: , Lauren have you got to the bottom of why number four was self destructing on two engines yet? My fear is the same thing is going to happen again... my advice is to have those injectors flow tested, it would be a disaster if it happened again after all this work!

Not looked at it tbh. Tom will sort that. :+:

I'll either flow test them or buy new injectors. Whatever works out cheaper I expect. We have another set from the 'new' engine which are greater flow I believe.

Cheers. :)

Cam covers are going to be white with black lettering to reflect that it's a Panda Trueno.

I'm also very tempted by trying to source some throttle bodies. It'd be fun but to the tune of about a grand to sort out, so I'm not so sure as that would be a grand away from GT86 deposit, so perhaps it will stay as is.

It is looking likely that I will be getting a car coon thing and I already have plans for a garage with power I can rent to store it, when it's finished. I will likely also get a bit more bodywork tidying too, but I have no plans to get it back on the road for the forseeable really.

It's a non-descript JDM manifold. I did find out who made it and it was some obscure Jap company, but I can't remember now.

As I've said on the other thread, it's Jasma type approved.

Don't know if it'd be of use to you, but I have a 20V throttle body assembly if you are interested?

I'm not sure a 20v throttle body in itself is much use really. I'm just going to build it as is. Pointless IMO pouring another grand into getting a throttle body setup for a car that isn't going anywhere. I'd rather have the money in the bank. I can always do that later if I want. :+:
