[Mk2] [Generic] Converting to manual steering

Post by 37831999 »

Hi all, may seem a bit strange but I wanna do away with the power steering setup in my mk2 and was wondering if anyone knew if a mk1 rack would go on ok???

You asked the question, i answered it.

With enough time and money, anything is possible.

Why not fit a rack from a UK Rev1? It'll bolt straight in.

That's the reply I was looking for ;-) I didn't know the rev 1 didn't have power steering :-) that's happy days for me. Thanks for your help. Need the pump etc to be out the way to make room for some exhaust pipes lol

exhaust pipes up front?

I dont think a non power steering rack will bolt into a power steering racked mr2, without some fabrication.

So to fit a v12 in a mkII you need a front exit exhaust? That's gonna be awesome

A little fabrication I don't mind, just want something that's almost the same in dimensions as the original.

I'm running a GT4088 turbo with front mount intercooler which is why the exhaust pipe are there ;-)

The intercooler is gonna be in the front bumper replacing the air con rad and radiator ( get a thicker intercooler that way ) as for the exhaust ill probably run it parallel to the pipe going to the turbo back down to the rear. Not to sure yet ;-)

Received the rev1 steering column today, is it necessary to to change the whole column or can I just change the crash link? Hopefully get time to have a go at it tomorrow
