[Mk2] [Turbo] newbie with rev3 turbo

Post by dan mkii »

Hi guys ,

After a little help , i have a 1994 mr2 turbo.

From reading the forum i think i have a rev3 model? Is this right?

Also am i right thinking i have a lsd box on a rev3?

Also whats needed for 300bhp , im sure this has been covered many times and from whative read on the forum i should need

Intercooler upgrade
Plugs
Boost control to 1bar
Decat exhaust
Intake

Is there anything else? Do i need a fuel management system?

Thanks Dan

Welcome to the forum Dan.

Is it a standard car or already modified? Original turbo and suspension?
How many miles has it done?

Probably worth your while doing enough miles as it is just to make sure it is reliable and identify any niggles before doing power mods.

If it was me, I would sort out any rust before modding for power gains.

About 10 years ago I dont remember seeing a rev 3 older than an L reg, and I have seen rev 2 on K reg so I think 93 was the change over year between rev 2 and rev 3. In recent years some rev 2 owners have modded the car to look like a rev 3. You can tell what it started out as from the chasis number. If you do a search you can find the Toyota chassis number range for each year.

Have fun with your mr2

Thanks for the welcome,

Cars standard other than boost gauge oil temp gauge and hks tt,

Cars not going to be an everyday car,

Theres no rust at all , ive been right through the car and everythink seems fine , got lots of recepits for gearbox syncros clutch , cambelt , hb cables calipers and so on! Just had to replace a inner track end and will need to do the tracking !

Just checked the log book and it says 1994 so it should have an lsd right?

and the miles are at about 96k

Thanks for your help , 1st on my list will be an upgraded radiator with tqin fans !

Unless you've got a particular reason, your money could be spent better elsewhere. The cooling system on these cars have plenty of overhead and even highly tuned cars run quite happily on stock rad and fans.

Reason i said about the rad is because i want to track it and the one fitted is the original and showing signs of detoriation , just a precaution really
