T-bar still leaking... ideas?

Post by munter »

We're getting a month of rain in 24 hours here. Got into the car this morning to find both seats are pretty damp. Not best pleased given I've just spent the best part of £200 and an entire day replacing the whole T-bar assembly.

Looks like the water is coming in where the seal meets the window glass and particularly at the top corners. When I reassembled the T-bar I did notice that with the ecliptic guides set to point bottom/in the T-bar glass panels were creaking a lot so I popped them over to point down/out. I imagine that the seal is now not tight enough.

So wet ass or creaking T-bar panels? Not a great choice. Any ideas?

How is the rubber on the actual t-bar panel? I have replaced my t-bars and it still leaks but the rubber on the panel has split. It comes in at the corners of the t-bar also.

You may just need to adjust the door glass to close up the gaps sounds like they've dropped a bit.

When I enquired of my local Mr T dealer a couple of years ago, it was still possible to get the seals on the panel Beckie

However, they come attached to the glass panel :o

Panels were about £120 each at that time IIRC

Or you could try this fix, which has been used successfully by some owners I believe

http://www.mr2oc.co.uk/component/fss/?v ... bartid=207

Above shows it used on a Mk2 but wworks the same on a Mk1

I've got a tube of the sealant ready to do mine when I get a chance

Yeah have figured it must be the glass panel deals that are shot. Picked up some new (to me) panels off eBay and the seals look fine, but could just be done. Certainly with the centre clips fixed and brand new t-bar seals it's not those things.

Might need to put an afternoon aside to mess around with the glass alignment. Certainly don't want to be pouring black silicone all over my sparkly new seals!!

You don't put the silicon on the body seals, it goes on the glass seals

Absolutetely so as Jimi says

And you don't pour it all over either

Just two very carefully placed lines of sealant on each panel

And then covered over with clingfilm to keep it from getting to places where it isn't wanted

Vitally important to use the correct type of sealant too

Thanks all. Did the sealant fix to the roof panels and not a trace of moisture coming through now, even after heavy rain.
