Hey Guys
I just posted only someof the pics the photographers made at the timeattack REISBRENNEN 2013. its europes biggest import car meeting with 10k+ of people!!! this year was absolutely insane!!!!
The car ran fine, but the clutch had gone when going for 1,2bar of boost (~490whp/700Nm). Its a CM FX400!!! I had to reduce the boost to0,8bar, it slipped a bit, but it was fine for a good time there.

Awesome! I love that 50% of the photos have flames coming out of the exhaust
Re: MR2 V6 Turbo - 3.5VZ-FTE EFR 9180
Yeah this is a bit of a machine if I don't say so myself... Love the look of the car... It's similar to what I've got planned for mine to an extent. Those rear wheels are FAT though and don't look out of place at all..

I like the latest photos. Now it looks the part too. I didn't know you could simply strap a turbo to the 3VFZE.

Hey guys
i started a survey on the german mr2 board. i asked, if i should push my iron 3vz to 1,2bar with a new multiple disc clutch or i should put the fully forged 5vz in the car. Currently they voted 30:8 for the 3vz!!! What do you think about it?

Out of those two options I would have to say 5vz. It's a newer more refined block with higher torque and bhp outputs.
However if you can afford to go the 2gr route that would be the best by far

I got already everything her for the 5vz.
2gr blocks break already in stock applications! aluminium blocks are never an option for high boosted engines!

Depends what you call high boost.

Plus as the block would weigh a lot less I think that the weight saving would offset any differences in boost if boost was kept at a reasonable level.

Re: MR2 V6 Turbo - 3.5VZ-FTE EFR 9180
Depends more on the power than on the boost itself! 2GR is no option in anyway! It´s a got na engine, but nothing more. I got a brand new 5vz block in my storage. So the question is and was, which engine i should go now. I have to change the clutch so or so! So the effort is nearly the same if changing to the 5vz. But my concern is, that i could find any weak points on the engine when boosting the 3vz to its limits!!! It is still a stock engine...just changed the headgaskets to new oem, cause blowed a set!
The target are true 500whp! Is not so far away....

If your only looking at the 3VZ and the 5VZ, then I would choose the 5VZ every time.

Why not just up the 3VZ until you blow it to pieces? You've learned a lot about how much a stock 3VZ can take, so you may as well carry on learning
Re: MR2 V6 Turbo - 3.5VZ-FTE EFR 9180
Hopefully the heads, crank and rods will survive! I was thinking about boosting it to 1.2bar on the dyno. The rollers on the dyno only have 500kg total. So its moment of inertia should be way lower than with the car on the street, perhaps the clutch could hold it!

Re: MR2 V6 Turbo - 3.5VZ-FTE EFR 9180
Heiko it still blows my mind that you are doing all of this to a stock V6 engine that i built and installed for you all those years ago..... just incredible you are making that much power without blowing the motor up.
Re: MR2 V6 Turbo - 3.5VZ-FTE EFR 9180
@paul: Yes...some years ago and the engine still lives! In my opinion the engines could do way more in a well tuned application than their rep is, when being stock!
I just found the issue why my powerband was falling straight down around 6000rpm. It seems the bov opens a bit....i can see a small dent in boost pressure and the iat´s are raising extremly this point! I choosed the Synapse DV Bov...cause my twinscroll setup spools the turbo that fast, that compressor surge occur! The GT35 also has this T04Z style anti-surge compressor housing! When this problem is solved, i will change the wastegate spring and look what happens on full boost! *g*

I guess these are more capable engines than the average 3VZ swapper thinks! Clearly the components are hard enough, if the tune is good enough.

Tuning certainly has a lot to do with it, but even Heiko will admit he's bending the laws of mechanical engineering with this engine, it really shouldn't be possible on stock rods/pistons/crank etc...
Fantastic stuff
