Crunching gear box

my gearbox has started crunching when SOMETIMES and only sometimes selecting 1st, 2nd and 3rd


What does this mean and is there anything i can do to stop it?

How low is the biting point on the clutch? it might need bleeding or adjusting, or the celvis might need replacing..
