Hi chaps, My car is a 91 UK car. What is the law on de-catting it? If it has one?
Also I'm looking to replace the whole exhaust sytem but I don't want to spend silly money nor do I want it to be too loud.....any thoughts / suggestions would be appreciated.
Cheers
Steve.

You can de-cat a UK car providing it was first registered prior to 1st September 1992.

Thanks for that, Am I right in thinking that the de-cat pipe is the same as the down pipe? (please excuse my ignorance.)
Cheers.

On a turbo, yes.
On an N/A, it is at the back, just in front of the back box.
If you have a UK Rev1, IIRC, it won't have a cat.

Ok, thanks for the info.
So if I bought something like this....
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/TOYOTA-MR2-SW ... 19bf9f03c1
Would it then mean that i'd need to only get the back section then the whole system would be replaced?
Again, please excuse my ignorance with this.
Cheers.

Decat system:
http://www.motorsportworld.co.uk/detpro ... PID=862515
The ebay item should bolt up to the above back box and decat pipe, always hard to tell though.

Correct.
However, you already have an efficient tubular manifold as standard, and the manifold nuts have a habit of being almost welded to the studs, resulting in snapped studs.
If your flexi section is good, you're better off looking for just a rear section. Look at those from Blueflame and Mongoose.

I only know its before 1st aug 1992 because mines registered 14th aug 1992 so has to have a cat and pass the cat emissions MOT test

If yours is an import take your chassis number to Toyota, they'll give you a print out of the date of manufacture which trumps the date on the registration computer or certainly did with Cassi's Mk2 import.

Do you think the MoT bods would do the same with a UK car Peter? I know it's specifically 'date of first use' in the hand book.
