MR2 Owners Vs Food - NW drive & meet & eat Monday 9th July

Post by RickMcRick »

The Back Story
Towards the end of last summer WWM, MartinR, Shell and myself where doing a few jobs on my car. Famished from a hard days mechanicing MartinR knew of a good eatery to recharge our batterys.
I can't remember what Shell had, probably scampi, Martin went for a burger and Mike habitually ordered the steak with pepper corn source.
Upon browsing the menu I spotted a double beef burger, double chicken burger, chilly beef, cheese and onion rings all in one bun and all for a 10er, good value for money I thought and made it my selection.
The meals started arriving, Mike's steak came out looking mouth watering on a served on sizzling skillet. When Martin's 'normal' burger arrive looking quite large my heart rate increased and my finger tips started to perspire as it dawned on me the gravity of what I had ordered.
The Rocky music started to play in the pub and the biggest burger you have seen this side of the Atlantic arrived at the table on the back of a low loader!
We all looked at each other, no one spoke, but in our eyes we could see we where all thinking the same thing..... we have to come back and bring the MR2 guys!!!

The time and the place was set, the we gathered our strongest jaws and our largest bellies. The battle was a long and hard one! Don't get me wrong, we damaged their ranks quite significantly, but one by one the mortals from our ranks fell until all that where left where the titans WWM and our secret weapon SteveM. They continued a long as they could, hacking, chewing, swallowing, but first WWM and shortly after SteveM both fell.

The battle had become the stuff of legend, as new members join the meets the story is taught to them in the form of song so they can pass it themselves to the next generation.

Well now is the time, gather your eating irons, gather your bellies, gather your jaws for on the Monday the 9th of July, we return to the flaming grill!!!

The meeting point - WA11 9AF - 19:00 to leave at 19:25!
At this location is an abandoned petrol station that will provide cover from the elements and photo opportunities

The Drive

I'll knock something up similar to last time, about 10 miles and 30 mins. Can't really do much more on a Monday evening after work and still make it somewhere in time for food but it's something.

Check back and I'll fill the route in here when I've come up with something.

The Food - WN3 6BL - 20:00

Venture, Billinge Road, Wigan, Lancashire, WN3 6BL

Yeah, absolutely. At least that's Japanese, unlike about 50% of the attending vehicles :thumleft:

Ah, John you missed out!

A massive thanks to Rick for organising the meet and also to everyone else for providing the entertainment. The challenge to eat a kilo of meat and stodge was certainly something Wilki and Big M will be paying for about now, I should think!

Will try and stick some pics up later. Cheers, all, look forward to the next one. :+:

Massive thanks for everyone for coming!!

I was really happy with how it went. So glad we had a good turn out for the drive and even more MR2s waiting for us at the pub.

Paul's Mk1 was brilliant! And I got a much better look at the AE86 this time :D

Thanks again, makes it all worth while having so many great people turn up.

I got loads of pics, so I'll get them resized and posted up over the next couple of days.

I unfortunately forgot the memory card for the car camera so did not get the video of the drive, but I might actually go and do it again so I can get some film of the route.
