Dec 95, Caribbean Blue, Mk2 Rev3 GT T-bar Turbo

Post by tubby_tony »

Toyota MR2 MK2 Rev3 GT T-Bar Turbo, Caribbean Blue, manufactured December 1995. 67414 miles, 12 months MOT until 24-06-2013 and taxed until 31-10-2012 producing 304bhp at the flywheel. £4500 ovno. No time wasters please that is the price.

I have owned this car since May 2002 when I had her imported from Japan. She was in standard unmodified condition with ~51600 km (32250 miles) on the clock and supplied with Japanese service logs confirming authenticity. This car is my pride and joy as can be seen by the modifications and her condition. She is garaged throughout the winter months (November until April) and usually only taken out of the garage at weekends.

She has been maintained by myself throughout ownership (with the exception of the first timing belt change), I have receipts for all the service
parts purchased. Initially she was serviced twice a year but as I started doing alot less miles (as can be seen by MOT certificates) I reduced this a couple of years ago to once a year just before putting her back on the road. Timing, AC and Alternator belts have just been changed.

MOT dates and mileage

09-05-2002 32300 (51679Km)
14-05-2003 39480
22-05-2004 43831
21-05-2005 47740

21-06-2008 61168
15-06-2009 62582
26-06-2010 65274
25-06-2011 66591

Performance wise she was originally mapped by Thor Racing producing 275bhp at the wheels. Over the last 2-3 years I have been using CoPilot
software to smooth out the fuel and ignition maps and produce a very reliable 304bhp at the flywheel. This can be seen by several printouts of runs on the same rolling road over the years. The mapping was performed with the water/methanol switched OFF as this piece of kit is to provide that extra safety on those scorching hot UK summer days.

She drives perfectly although some may find the coilovers a little firm but with 24 adjustable settings its down to drivers preference. I do have a
set of firmer springs to be included also, as well as original sideskirts, boot spoiler, air box and original 15" wheels with tyres.

Faults - at 16 years old there are a few small stone chips as would be expected on original paint work but NO RUST. The interior storage draw in front of the passenger has a few scuff marks but no physical damage. She will be needing two rear tyres as they are now on the wear indicator as documented on her last MOT.

Please use my garage link for images. The exterior has not changed but the engine bay now has an Arc induction Kit, strut braces and A WI feed fitted from the boot. New images up as soon as it stops raining and I can get some new photos.

More pictures added to link above but poor lighting. Forgot to take pictures of frunk showing additional strut brace. Will post it up at weekend. The external driver and passenger side views show the wheel offsets coming flush with the sides (custom made 12mm spacers on correct offset staggered wheels). I forgot to add the recaro seats as standard on my car description. The WI progressive controller is mounted on the steering column for easy access. The datalogit is fitted in the cabin behind the drivers seat again for easy access but hidden when not in use. Being a GT she has a full electric pack and Aircon. Damn I love this car. I am filling up.

My reason for sale is purely because of lack of use as can be seen by the decreasing mileage on the MOT's. I still love having a permanent grin when driving her but Pi$$ poor UK weather and increasing petrol prices restricts that pleasure.

Anyone interested in purchase REALLY MUST get an insurance quote with these mods. I am 49 years old with 9+ years NCB and a limited mileage of 5000 and I pay £460pa with ALL MODS declared.

Such a shame your selling up Tony.

I can vouch that this is one amazing MR2 both in looks and performance, have seen it many times and is worth every penny Tony is asking.

Good luck with the sale

Had a PM but thought I should reply here also as a valid request.

The T-Bars are not leaking. I have used Autoglym rubber restorer for the last 5-6 years on the seals and as long as the T-Bars are located correctly when put back in, front and back edges touching door frame seal they are fine. My car was out in the thunderstorm a week past Thursday all day (not by choice) and there were no leaks then.

She needs two rear tyres as they are now on the warning indicator. I was wanting to put her up for £4800 so deducted price for tyres.

If you'd have put her up closer to this price when you last advertised, I'd have bitten your hands off for it

As it is, I have a caribbean blue tubby now with which I'm pretty happy... tho I've always thought yours is nicer! (Sorry Fizz / Flamby)

There does not seem to be a great deal of interest on IMOC so I will be putting her up for sale elsewhere also. Shame as I would have preferred her to go to someone on this forum as she has been on here for 10 years, is well known amongst north east members and is one of the best examples around.

Two new Goodyear Eagle F1 A's 235/45/17's fitted on rear. Slightly higher profile means when clock reads 30mph actually doing 31.7mph, 60mph=63.4mph.

I have updated images showing the gap between the MRD skirts and the car body. Also the marks on the MRD skirts from the bottom of the door rubbing. There are 3 chips in the paintwork that were done prior to my ownership which can be seen in the photos also. These were "touched up" before I got the car and have not changed in size in the 10 years of ownership so I would assume no rust beneath them.

Tax expires the end of this month then she will probably be off the road until March. Anyone interested, insured and wanting a test drive best let me know asap to organise. Price is still the same.

Car is now SORN and will not be back on the road until March/April unless you are serious about buying her after a viewing whereby I will put 6 months tax on her.
