How to test top mounts

Post by TRINDA1664 »

Hello

I have a couple of top mounts laying around and not sure if they are good or scrap.

Does any one know how to test them whilst they are off the car.

Thanks

Pillowball or stock topmounts?
And what do you want to test? The bearing?
If so, you can try to find a rod approximately the size of the bearing opening en put it through. Lock the topmount in a vice and wiggle and twist it to check for free play or strange sounds.

They are stock top mounts,
I have read that you need to make sure the bearing is moving freely. but with the rear top mounts i have when the shaft moves the whole top mount moves and not just the bearing and i can not see the bearing.

So if i got hold of the top mount the the shaft should still beable to spin?
