Hello people ive been on imoc since 2007 but im yet to post anything about my mr2
so here it is!
a 1992 mk2 gts turbo
i bought it back in 2006/7 for £2400 with around 65'000 miles
I gave it the usual abuse as you do and loved it from the word go
did the usual mods, wound the boost up, coilovers, sway bars, ct20, wheels tyres, clutch, etc...........
......eventualy disaster struck and i broke 3 ring lands
luckily by this point i was bitten by the mr2 bug and had bought a couple more tubbys
(red one white one and half the other white one)
i bought the white tbar for £250 with a blown turbo and tatty recaro fishnet seats (still in the loft) whipped the ct20, exhaust and the seats off the blue car fitted them on the white one and got it running.
and it ran great!
i was quite supprised when on a rolling road day it produced 302fwhp at 1bar boost!
Anyway by this point i had started to rebuild the blue ones engine and i had been talked into doing sprints and hill climbs by my dad
so having sold the red one i put my decent wheels/tyres on the white one and was ready to go!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4FfCmYYG ... ata_player
finished the 2010 season off quite well and managed several 2nd in class and a novice driver award
So for 2011 i wanted to build the blue car back up and take it seriously!

haha you may be a little disapointed then
its a bit of a rough build tbh and it evolved unexpectedly into what it is now.
Re: Mr2 Turbo Sprint Car (Banshee)
Seems to go alright

it does go well but its on a knife edge at the mo.
it ate 6 pistons in 2011
Re: Mr2 Turbo Sprint Car (Banshee)
Right
i started to rebuild the engine before i started racing so it was just going to be a rev 2/3 mutant
but as you'll see it evolved
i started with a rev 2 block and an st205 engine that i had with a cracked block
so cleaned and painted the rev2 block
used the st205 crank
cleaned off the st205 pistons and rods removed all the sharp edges on the pistons and sanded the shine out.
ballanced the rods and pistons
then fitted total seal rings, clevite bearings and dropped them in.
nice new rev3 oil pump
Drilled all the holes needed to fit a rev3 sump to a rev2 block and on it went
so that was the bottom end done
now the head
i ported and polished the head and smoothed the sharp edges in the combustion chamber
re-cut the valves and seats and cc'd the head
fitted rev3 cams but used rev2 buckets and shims
then i cc'd the block
used a rev3 gasket and arp studs
had to make up the odd pipe to go from the block to the rev3 oil cooler then used a mixture of rev2 and 3 bits
head and block all sorted i fitted the jun inlet manifold this was later removed as im saving it for my 5s build
the next stage is the bit im least happy with!......

Re: Mr2 Turbo Sprint Car (Banshee)
.......the turbo setup
well all i can say is this all came up free and as it would give me more power than the ct20 i used it!
The story goes i sold the red mr2t to a friend and after about a month the head gasket blew so i changed it for/with him and in exchange he gave me this.
it was a t3/4e with external waste gate and a few bits and bobs
imo not a good way to do it but by now there was about 16 days left to get the car running for my first race of 2011 so sod it.
thought id do the best of a bad job so ported a stock exhaust manifold on the milling machine
on with the adapter
on with the waste gate
bit of work to get it to fit
chinese turbo! on the plus side when my antilag blows it to bits its only cheap.
at least i can fit the stock heat shield
.

Re: Mr2 Turbo Sprint Car (Banshee)
so running the bigger turbo i needed to convert to rev3 and as i had the rev2 head on the velocity flaps had to come out
cut out the cold start and fitted the mat
modified a stock fuel rail and opened it up to 9mm
clutch
fuel rail fed at both ends in -6 with rev3 injectors
also fitted a bosch 044 pump in tank
got the engine ready to drop in ( prob missed loads out ) so moved on to the car........

Re: Mr2 Turbo Sprint Car (Banshee)
The car had stood up for well over a year now so there was quite a lot of bits to sort out
while i was at it ill make some room for the bigger tyres
treated it to a new set of disks and pads
didnt go for anything special on the discs as i dont think they need it so oem it was
bigger rubber than last year 275/40/17
same wheels tho 5zigen fno1rc's
front 8x17
rears 9x17
cant remember the offset's
so by this point everything was looking ok
making good progress didnt think much would go wrong until......................................................
...........................It tryed to kill me!
i was borrowing the ramp next door when (screw type) it decided to strip the thread
i didnt know this and had to use a jack and block of wood under the one pilar where it had jammed
well i pulled the jack out turned around and when i turned back it was at my feet!
the sill took the brunt of the damage

Re: Mr2 Turbo Sprint Car (Banshee)
Nice write up
After watching the videos of yourself an Bob racing, I was certainly intrigued to see a write up
So what's next? Single seater?

Re: Mr2 Turbo Sprint Car (Banshee)
Cheers.
Yeah single seater would be the ideal next step
Just something like an r1 Jedi to see if I like it
Iv also got a 5s just crying out for meth so could be building a sports libra car instead.

Great thread/car mate
Has it been resprayed Caribbean blue?

Re: Mr2 Turbo Sprint Car (Banshee)
Well after getting the engine in it needed an exhaust and ive always fancied a side exit so this was my chance
i ordered an oval silencer from jetex along with a length of 3" stainless and a flange.
for some reason i didnt take pics while making it so only a few of it in
so the zorst done i started the inlet
that was a jetex filter and 3" aluminum tube
had to cut the little fuel pipe and join in hose to get it back far enough to fit the charge cooler.
i fitted my charge cooler rad and pipe work about 2 years ago as i had a full carlos sainz system just didnt get it finished.
the rad
i made the front to rear pipes from 22mm copper tube and bent it with a spring along the same route as the ac pipes. This was not easy and will never be doing it again!
fitted the pump on the gearbox

thanks
yeah im guessing it was done in japan.
Re: Mr2 Turbo Sprint Car (Banshee)
How loud is the exhaust? I like the idea
Re: Mr2 Turbo Sprint Car (Banshee)
its 102db at 3/4 full rpm
on full load at low rpm its not a nice noise once up over 2k its quite nice
and on full boost with the wategate open i love it!
