[Mk2] [Turbo] campatability

Post by andya24 »

hi,
firstly excuse my ignorance i have zero knowlege or experience with audio typey stuff.

first most pressing question is i have bought a huaginlan?? double din sat navy type thing from ebay for cheap.i got caught up in a bidding war before i reasearched the unit and ended up winning, now when i reasearch it it pretty much only comes up with refences to bmw, does that matter or will any aftermarket unit fit any car with the correct fettling of wiring?
cheers andy

You can buy convertors to go from jap wiring standard ISO connectors.

The centre consol will need a bit of fettling to allow these Ebay double din units to fit though as they are taller than the opening

lovely job,i was getting concerned as to why it would only bring up bmw when googled.
my loom for the stereo has been butchered and essiantially had the plug cut off leaving the wires just hanging there,is it possible to hard wire into a headunit or will i need to fix a plug to the loom, then loom to adaptor?

Firstly check to see if your car has the passive or active system?
Easiest way have you got a sub behind passenger seat (or one behind each seat) or none.
I think your new stereo will have bare wires on it not an ISO plug.

Put up a photo of the plugs in your car as I am guessing you have the passive system with two plugs g]

Yup the same but without the plugs, somebody has just cut it of and left the tail end of the loom.its going into petes when he returns so i think the plans to solder an old plug back and and use iso adaptor.so it will be sorted....im just impatient!

I can get you a sot lead if you want which has the original plug (with a female iso on the other end of the wire) and an iso adaptor as well, if you want?

Disreguard my earlier post get a standard ISO plug like this http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/PC3-08-Male-I ... 27c736eaa4 and connect it to your chopped off loom
This should help you
Constant 12V+ Blue/Yellow
Switched 12V+ Gray
Ground Brown
Illumination Green (not needed)
Antenna Trigger Black/Red
Left Front (+) Pink
Left Front (-) Purple
Right Front (+) Light Green
Right Front (-) Blue
Left Rear (+) Black
Left Rear (-) Yellow
Right Rear (+) Red
Right Rear (-) White

well iv finally got it in,essentially the wiring had been swapped and changed it made no sense.im not an auto electrician by any means so the car might set on fire any second

bassically chased the wiring back to the stock amp and gave up so i took all that out, wired a constant live from battery to hu grounded hu to battery and chassis, and took a switched live from fag lighter.
i then individualy wired up each speaker with fresh cable

seems to work, doesnt sound great, quite tinny but it will do until i upgrade componants and add a sub and etc

questions

1,the headunit has a 15amp fuse,is that protecting the full system?

2,am i ok just wiring up that constant live from battery without fusing it?

3,when the cars off (no power) the hu makes a faint but constant clicking..like a relay clicking.is this normal or is something wrong with the way i have wired it in?

cheers
