1999 UK mk2 rev5 NA silver/black

Post by JohnnyC »

I have owned the car for 9 years, I was the 2nd owner from new.
Selling due to doing silly mileage (1300+ miles per month) so need something uber economical.

Has been professionally serviced annually. Plus an oil change in between those services (mostly with Silkolene Pro S 5W40).

The car is still on the original factory clutch - with no signs of slipping at all.
Gearbox is perfect, no crunching or notchiness.

Currently on approx 120,000 miles.
Taxed until end of October 2012.
MOT expires 21st May 2013.

Engine:
Apexi induction kit (I still have the stock induction system if preferred).
Mongoose stainless exhaust.

Brakes / Suspension:
Carbotech Panther Plus pads + discs in 2008 (pads approx half worn now).
Major suspension overhaul in October 2008:
- Polybushes (Prothane).
- Ball joints (Sbits).
- Shock absorbers (Toyota),
- Spring cups (Toyota),
- Top mounts (TRD),
- Springs (Eibach).
- Drop links (Camskill),
New front discs in April 2012.

Exterior:
JDM rear lights (brand new from Toyota in 2010), quad tail & brake lights, switch to disable inner tail/brake lights.
Heated / folding wing mirrors.
Clear side repeater lenses (Toyota gen7 Celica).
Black mesh in front of radiator.
Black mesh in side vents.
Dark grey Toyota emblems.

Interior:
Speedhut elglo dials (with kmph).
Sony MiniDisc player with 6 disc changer (plays MP3 discs).
Heater controls have blue LEDs as do foglight switches & door switches.

Noteworthy / recent maintenance:
Radiator from Rogue (February 2007).
Professionally undersealed by JR Classics, with annual check ups (September 2009).
Cambelt / idlers / tensioner / water pump / thermostat changed by Sbits (November 2009).
Toyota HT leads/dizzy cap/rotor arm (May 2010).
Serviced by Sbits (December 2011).
New windscreen (January 2012).
New Toyo T1-R rear tyres (April 2012).
Denso copper spark plugs (April 2012).
Toyota fuel filter (April 2012).
Dot 4 brake fluid (April 2012).
Toyota alternator belt (April 2012).
Alloys refurbished (DIY) (April 2012).

Bad bits:
Paint bubble on drivers side rear of sill.
Light scratches on rear bumper.
Paint flake on front bumper in front of drivers side headlight.
Surface rust on front of sump.
Heater control backlighting LEDs have stopped working - I may just replace with spare unit I have so it'll be back to green backlighting.
Front number plate has dirt behind the perspex - may change these for Euro style plates :)

Price:
£2200

Location:
Wakefield, West Yorkshire.

Thank you :thumleft:

The owners manual states it does have LSD, but then gives gearbox oil capacities for LSD & non-LSD

But...

Consider it confirmed. They were optional from revision 4, and IIRC the EPC lists them as standard equipment for about the last six months of production.

A lot of people with revision 5 S54 gearboxes are unaware that they have a limited slip differential because they are of the torque sensing (torsen) type. They're notoriously difficult to test for and you can't tell just by jacking the wheels up and spinning them.

raise the rear up... spin the wheel.. if the other one spins the _same_ direction, it has LSD, if opposite direction, no LSD

That'd work for LSD on earlier mk2's, not the later type of LSD unfortunately (confirmed in Rogue's quote above)

It was the same for the Lexus IS200 Sport, the 'Sport' model definitely had LSD ('S' & 'SE' versions didn't), but owners were baffled that the wheels span in different directions when jacked up.

I could be interested in this - I am in the market for a car this weekend.

How solid are the sills, do you think that bubbling is easily sorted?

How many miles were on the clock when the cambelt was done?

Are you around on Saturday? PM me your number, and if it is not sold by then I'll give you a call.

Sill seem reasonably solid.
As already said, I think they'll be okay for a few years - but will need sorting eventually.
I guess the bubbling could be sanded and sprayed, but I don't see much point in that.

I'll have to check, it was noted in the service book (and receipt from Sbits). At a wild guess (until I can check later tonight) it was around 86,000 miles (it was it's 2nd cambelt change).
