Water Temp Gauge Issue

Post by j0ns »

Just wondering if anyone else gets this? Once the car has warmed up and the water is up to temperature if you boot it within the following 10 or so minutes the Water Temperature gauge falls rapidly, some times off the scale then rises again when you lift off.

Is this something to worry about, or could it be as simple as the thermostat opening and reducing the temp? Another thought is that the Charge Cooler rad could have an additional cooling affect on the normal rad.

Any ideas? :-k

I'm no mechanic but from other posts i have read, it sounds like your thermostat could be sticking, or as you say just opening up. There is a thread on here on how to test it... just need to search for it.

Sounds like the stat, mine did this. I could get the car up to temperature when driving around town but as soon as I got on any A roads it dropped back down and started to ge into cold running again (and boost was limited to the lower setting).

Sorry to cloud the issue but could it not be a little air in the system? Sits at the highest point till the increased speed of flow brings it into the flow system then it goes past the sensor still cold?
Just a thought...
Have you bled the coolant recently?

Stat stuck open. Replace Stat, bleed and refill coolant.
