Hire cars...

Post by Tsia »

Whilst my car is on holiday at Pacific Works, I got a hire car to get me about the place. Does anybody else that uses their '2 as a daily driver, constantly turn the windscreen wipers on when trying to turn? 8-[

Anyway, a picture of the beauty so you can all bask in it's eco-friendly glow :

My MR2 and BMW's indicator and wiper stalks are on opposite sides to each other. Bloody annoying, go to turn and put wipers on #-o

Swapping between the two, i get it right 70% of the time, every time

What really gets me is that i use the high beam all the time to let people out etc but you cant do that with the '2 because it takes so long for the lights to pop up that the moment is gone. However i occasionally forget this, catch the screen wash button and just blind myself. ](*,)

Is this then just the MR2 being on the wrong side?
Thought it was normal with all the English cars.

For RHD the stalk for indicators should be on the right hand side. That is the correct side for it. This is why JDM cars have the indicator stalk on the right hand side.

If you look at early 70's British cars and before, they do tend to have the indicators on the right hand side.

However, annoyingly (and I blame VAG for this in the 70's) there is a thing where the indicator stalks on UK cars are now always on the left side, which is, I think because the Euro manufacturers could not be bothered to engineer it for the indicator stalk to be on the right hand side.

I drive our Yaris when I have to (horribly bloody thing) and that has the stalk on the left hand side. I have no problem at all swopping between the two though. But I would say I really wish UK cars had the indicator on the right side of the steering column.

One thing I have noticed is indicating off roundabouts when having to change gear is a right bu88er with it on the 'wrong' (left!) side...

Don't have the problem with the MK1 as there is only one stalk on the steering column. If you get it wrong there's nothing there.
