[Mk2] [Generic] New Rebuidable OEM Struts?

Post by msherry21 »

Hi everyone. I'm about to change my suspension as my Tein HA's are stuffed.

I was thinking of buying some new rebuildable struts with Eibach springs, Are these struts/shocks any good? I know later on I can replace the struts with Koni's...but for now, are the standard shocks and struts good enough for back road and occasional track use?

I really appreciate any info on this.
Cheers, Michael.

Not sure if you can actually still buy new rebuildable struts. Think you may have to buy secondhand and refurb.... Eibachs supposedly quite comfortable but maybe not a lot lower than a stock rev3 ride height. Best combo depends on budget and requirements... what are yours?

I'm sure the new Turbo struts (not Bilsteins) I got from Trevor at TCB parts were rebuildable. I remember looking at them and seeing the retaining collar that unscrews and thinking it would be handy come replacement time for some KONIs.

*New* UK struts from Toyota are no longer rebuildable.

Sorry to hijack, are the uk n/a rebuildable struts exactly the same across the range and also the same as the rev1 turbo struts.

They're all the same dimensionally, so interchangable. I suspect they are very similar if not identical in spec., but who knows - there is no public comparison data of Toyota OEM struts. (Obviously excluding Bilsteins).

JDM struts are not rebuildable.

Reason i ask is i got coilovers on mine and its too much for roads round here got no teeth left and never sees a trackday anyway.
So i can get some uk rebuildables drop in some adjustable dampers and lowering springs and it would be ok on a rev3 turbo?

Yep. As msherry says, good solution.

Some old UK struts off ebay, a nice shiny Koni kit, job done.
