Refurbishing a set of Rays TE37's - Which colour to go with?

Post by Magic Beans »

My tubby aka "The Mule" for various reasons... Came with a set of lovely TE37's fitted. However as the car had been sat for 4 years, along with general wheel neglect prior to me owning it (brake dust pitting) I want to get them refurbished.

Currently they're in the bronze colour, which I actually really like. However I might be swayed into going with another colour, depending on what else might look good and suit the car? The car's 8B6 blue, so I was thinking maybe white, maybe gunmetal?

Any suggestions, or experiences from people who've had them done? :thumleft:

Although I like white I think it's one of those colours which will go out of fashion very quickly - (plus if painted on the wrong wheels or on the wrong car it can look a little chavvy imo)

I like gunmetal

Have you considered a gunmetal/blue cross??

These are my blue wheels on a blue car and I think it works well:

Have you considered a contrasting colour and do highlights. For example red wheels. Then pain the brake calipers red, all matching the rear red lights, etc... It can look very good if done correctly with some time and thought.

It's good to see everybody likes completely different colours to the next person :)

I do like the current colour and to me it compliments the blue well. Although I'm only basing that on that fact I've only ever seen the car with these wheels on  Caribbean blue is a reasonably dark colour, so black etc would be too much. White's pretty nice but would be a swine to keep pristine.

One thing I don't want is for them to make the car look like it's crashed into Halfords. [-X haha

Keep them bronze. :thumleft:

Bronze, white or gunmetal for re sale purposes. Lairy colours are in right now, but soon be out again.

I really like the bronze and before I read the text was thinking gunmetal or white, white looks good but gunmetal would have to be my fave.

My accord is Arctic blue pearl with gunmetal wheels...

what ever you decide, get the wheels painted.. DO NOT powder coat..
sorry for the shout there but , powder coating these forged magnesium wheels makes the metal brittel and they will crack or eveb worse shatter.. Ive seen few pics online of wheels that ended up breaking after powder coat

I think I'll go with the bronze, as the car is already it's own entity, so it almost feels like changing the wheel colour would be in some way changing the essence of the stubborn beast it is. Deep huh :-k

Can anyone recommend a company in the East Midlands who can do them and do a good job?

Rays are forged NOT magnesium and there is nothing wrong with powder coating them. I have a set I powder coated two years ago ;)
Also you will not be able to refurbish that same bronze. It is anodised and cannot be matched.

Oh no, not added complexity. It's taken me ages to decide on the colour!

Can you get wheels anodised again, or is that a lesser offered service?

Decals have been tricky to find, however there's a seller on the well-known auction site who has them :D

I can cut vinyl decals, if the logo is easy to get in the right format...

Spot on. Te37s are forged aluminium. As said, the bronze cannot be matched as its anodised.

Never had te37s coated, but had a set of Regamasters coated and they are minted.

Powdercoated my 18" TE37s to black from the anodised bronze 2+ years ago, still look like new.

I'm afraid you won't find anywhere near the match on the bronze anywhere, AFAIK no company offers a refurbishment to that spec.

Yeah I wanted my advan rg's in that colour, but the closest I could get was a darkish gold. Shame because bronze looks pretty cool realy.
