[Mk2] [NA] Gasket costs

A fiend thinks his Head Gasket is gone, or going.. Basically his car is overheating, coolant is obviously backing up with the pressure. But he cannot find any other clues to the actual Head gasket gone, no oil in the water, gunk etc in the oil cap.. only issue is the coolant backing up into his tank...

so, if it is the head gasket, any ideas on how much roughly it should cost get sorted ?

you might have air in the coolant, and the system needs bleeding and topping up.. if it is the headgasket then depends on the car, if its Na or turbo, and how much work is involved to replace it..
I would imagine on a Na it should be less than 300 quid including parts..

Change the thermostat and flush/bleed the system first, is the oil cooler breathing a lot?
