[Mk2] [Turbo] O/S front brake calliper seized

Post by Evo-Mr2 »

As I was driving to work this morning I noticed quite a loud noise from the front (the sort of grinding noise you get from worn brake pads). The brake disc has gone slightly blue and the wheel felt quite hot so I'm pretty sure the calliper has seized.

I know the slider bolts on these can be a problem so will see about getting these replaced but will it need a new calliper as well or can you get away with just the slider bolt?

I think it's the o-ring, disintergrating around the slider bolt...and then mushing up with brake dust etc...that locks them up, it's a potential headbanging job to unsieze and seperate the carrier from the rest, once apart , make sure there is nothing left in the hole, don't use copper grease...prob the reason why most gunk up in the first place.
