Re: [Mk2] [NA] 200bhp ??
in a n/a? If so not really unless you pour
£1k's in to it.
Just put a tubby engine in and get more power and save thousands

Re: [Mk2] [NA] 200bhp ??
well if you want to keep it a standard N/A then rip out the rev1 engine and find a low mileage rev3 engine that'll take you up from 154bhp to 175bhp as they came out of the factory.
Get the passengerside loom with the engine.![](./images/smilies/spacer.gif)
![](./images/smilies/spacer.gif)
Then all your chasing is the extra 20 odd bhp

Re: [Mk2] [NA] 200bhp ??
If you want to stay NA and are chasing power why not go beams? With some money poured into it I bet you could see way in excess of 200bhp.
.
.it would be expensive though!

Re: [Mk2] [NA] 200bhp ??
3S engine with vvti, was fitted with a single adjustable cam in some rev 5 MR2's
(red top), and with dual adjustable cams in other toyotas
(grey top)

![](./images/smilies/spacer.gif)
Have a search on here under beams.

Re: [Mk2] [NA] 200bhp ??
if you want to achieve it on n/a base then yes
a Beams engine is 200bhp stock, or you could go the v6 route
,
but otherwise pretty limited on a n/a
,

Re: [Mk2] [NA] 200bhp ??
I don't see why it should be too hard to get 200BHP out of a non Beams 3SGE.
You'd want to start with a Rev3+ motor
(as stated above) for a 170-180bhp starting point.
Getting the right cams to allow the engine to breath up towards 8krpm would be vital and some of the more aggresive Turbo profiles may do the trick.
A bit of head work
(probably OK on std valves) and finally some nice cheap motorbike ITBs on a custom inlet manifold.
Run this lot with something like Megasquirt and you'd be into 200bhp territory surely.
It may end up costing the same
(or even more) than a Turbo conversion but if you want a screaming N/A for track work then I think it's well do-able

Seems reasonable, but I think the Caldina/Rav4 Beams is lower powered

) so not much over a Rev3+ 3SGE.
Saying that it's probably just and ECU swap away from full power
![](./images/smilies/spacer.gif)
![](./images/smilies/spacer.gif)
ECU and inlet cam swap to get it up to red top spec.
![](./images/smilies/spacer.gif)
![](./images/smilies/spacer.gif)
Upgrading a naturally aspirated 3SGE to over 240bhp is way more expensive than a straight turbo swap.

Assuming you're referring to the BEAMS engine then you need the manual red top ECU for maximum power.

Re: [Mk2] [NA] 200bhp ??
If you're going for max power then stand alone ecu is a no brainer, you'll need to to take advantage of higher compression pistons, huge cams and a seriously increased redline ![Mr. Green ](./images/smilies/icon_mrgreen.gif)

Apprently the previous owner of my two had an aftermarket ecu for a bit but I've never seen one before
