Jesus, how can I work out whether it's this or a leak?
EDIT: And what would cause this?

remove air filter and put hand over inlet to block air flow with engine running..
.
.a big leak will let the car run, a small leak will howl like a b1tch and if theres no leak it will stall within a couple of seconds
whilst you are there have a feel of the turbo shaft, but obviously do that with the engine off..

when you get the turbo off the car I would expect to see the turbine wheel still in place but the fins all smashed up.
Hope you get it sorted soon,
Kev.
