As far as I'm aware, it's just an RTV (room temperature vulcanising) sealant? It should be pretty generic stuff....

Go down your local motorfactors and ask for a tube of Blue (make sure it's the non-hardening formula), job done :thumleft:

Something like this:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Hylomar-Unive ... 20b81561b3

Tips:

Do not use a gasket, or cork
Clean both edges thoroughly before attempting to seal it
Take several passes around the sump to tighten down, don't fully wind in each bolt on the first round
Wait a couple hours before fully tightening down- gives the sealant a chance to start going off before you fully tighten down and squish it all out of the joint

ash that was a sneaky edit i didn't see that before i did the job. ne mind.

i put a fair bead on let it sit for half hour then whacked it on. i did everything as in your edit except waiting coupe of hours ( as i never saw ya edit).
i have however left sump plug out to help it go off (peter suggested this but as i see he uses a different product). guess i will fill her up day after tom.

fingers crossed, am fed up of doing this bloody job without a ramp!

Apologies

The only thing I would have done differently is not waited half an hour before whacking the sump on, I'd have put it on and partially tightened down to spread the blue, left it for a while and then fully tightened down :eye:

Fingers crossed for you bud :thumleft:

sorry ash, epic failure lol. i left a 60 quid, 20 mile oil slick round the Cotswold's, oooopppppps!

when i took the blue off it hadn't stuck to anything. it was still the consistency of hair gel

re done it today with peters suggestion and it seems fine now. fingers still crossed though

Damn mate...not good #-o

Wonder what you've got on your sump that's stopping it sealing??

I've used blue to seal the sump on a good few builds now and never had any issues at all :-k

Hope it's sorted now...

I wonder if leaving it for half an hour before you closed the joint coked things up :-k

I usually use blue when fuel is involved, silicone is the way.

For best results, "clean" = spotless. Acetone or panel wipe on both surfaces will do the best job.

Clean surfaces and then degrease with thinners. Ensure spotless and dry.

Apply sealant and allow to part cure.

Put parts together and nip bolts. Leave an hour then torque to spec.

Leave sump plug out and allow to fully cure for 24 hours before filling with oil.

Sealant and method advised by top motorsport co. who also happen to be involved with Nobles.
