[Mk2] [Turbo] Aftermarket amp location

Post by Harold »

I've seen that lots of people put their amps in the frunk on some kind of mdf platform. I don't really like the look of this and would much rather put it somewhere hidden away, would it be workable to put it behind the seats or in one of the cubby boxes? I have no idea of what wiring needs to go where.

Thanks.

The frunk is a nice location because the battery is right there - no running thick power cables to the back of the car.

You could mount it behind one of the seats, or perhaps in the cubby hole if there is enough room / ventilation. Another possible location could be the passenger footwell>?

usually right under the tyres

mine had an amp fitted to it when i bought it, i just used the exsisting wires, the earth went all the way to the battery, you can mount it on the body work but you'll have to scrape away some paint, thing with the mr2 is, evem if you are running cables into the interior, they never have to be very long, mine's were originally wired up horribly, i re-routed them under the carpets, then poked them out one of the hole in the carpet that the bolts for the seat go through :thumleft:

Yep mines on the battery, but you could equally attach it to any bolt in the cabin(the seat for example) so long as there is bare metal.

Got a 900 watt under the carpet on the drivers side firewall.
Works well - took a bit to wire though

I put mine in the frunk to start

Then moved them to the boot where they are fed from the alternator (0gauge from the alternator to distribution block and amps and then to the battery)
