[Mk2] [Turbo] Stereo wires a mess....

Post by Amebb »

Hi

Need some help here please.

I have started work on installing a Kenwood CD player for my car.

When i bought this car it was a project car and had no stereo fitted at all. In fact the toyota connectors were cut off and the wires were in a mess.

I am trying to decode the wires and see where they go. I have had a look at the other postings and other sites on the net but i always find that i have different colours compared to what they have.

Have a look below and see if you can make any sense of this mess...

Two thick grey cables comming in. One contains 4 wires and the other 7 wires and then i have three wires loose.

Cable 1

Black/Silver Bands .... - ?
White/Silver Bands .... - Permanant Positive +
Green/Silver Bands ... - ?
Red/Silver Bands ...... - Ignition Positive +

Cable 2

Blue/Silver Bands ... ?
White Silver Bands . ?
Black/Silver Bands . ?
Brown/Silver Bands. ?
Green/Silver Bands. ?
Yellow/Silver Bands. ?
Red/Silver Bands ... ?

Three Loose Wires

Green Stripe/White Stripe ... ?
Pink Stripe/Blue Stripe ........ ?
Black Stripe/Red Strip with Silver Bands ... ?

The car has the 4 speakers, two tweeters and two subs behind the seats (built in - standard).

I think that the audio setup is fairly standard from Toyota.

If anyone can help me solve this mess i would appreciate it very much.

Thanks for your help guys....

Hi Msherry21

Thank you for reply.

I have followed the guide to connect the speakers etc and it hasnt worked for me.

Not sure why though.

I will be checking the fuses to the amp and doing continuity checks on the wires to the amp etc.

Its really a pain the ar5e and i need to get this done asap.

Does anyone else have any clues as to what is going on here ?

Thanks for your help

Hi Jamesydj

The colours that you have used to wire up the stereo in your car are different to the coloured wires that i have in my car ...

The colours in my car are :

Cable 1

Black/Silver Bands .... - ?
White/Silver Bands .... - Permanant Positive +
Green/Silver Bands ... - ?
Red/Silver Bands ...... - Ignition Positive +

Cable 2

Blue/Silver Bands ... ?
White Silver Bands . ?
Black/Silver Bands . ?
Brown/Silver Bands. ?
Green/Silver Bands. ?
Yellow/Silver Bands. ?
Red/Silver Bands ... ?

Three Loose Wires

Green Stripe/White Stripe ... ?
Pink Stripe/Blue Stripe ........ ?
Black Stripe/Red Strip with Silver Bands ... ?

I have checked the continuity of the wores to the amp and they are all fine.

The amp works ok. I have tested it on my other mr2.

Not really sure what the issue can be on this one.... :-k

Thanks

Save yourself the headache and start over. Install your own cables, also gives a good chance to check over all the interior and make all the fixings snug and tight again.

Hi Dazz

Yes good plan but, you will still need the pin connections on the amp(s) if you are going to rewire the whole audio system.

Also, i have noticed that the colours of the wires in the loom are different to what you will find on the info online.

However, i have nearly sorted my system out and will be putting some form of guide up to help anyone else in the same boat as me.

What amazes me is that if people dont know what they are doing they should stay well clear and not mess up the wiring etc... bunch of twit's...
